Nova Scotia School Library Conference

The NS School Library Conference hosted by the Chignecto Central School Board appears to be a great success. In my opinion, the conference was well organized and ran smoothly today.

Kudos to Jolene Shaw and her organizing committee. The speakers were well informed and engaging.

NSALT had a booth at the conference. We passed out more than 50 brochures. It was a great opportunity to get the word out about the association.

Library Support Staff Day

NSALT is pleased to announce that the Canadian Library Association has proclaimed the third Friday of October as Library Support Staff Day. This year, the day will be celebrated on Friday October 19th.

Over the summer, the NSALT Executive approached the Canadian Library Month planning team to have a day in October set aside to celebrate Library Support Staff. The planning team took the proposal to the CLA Council for approval.

So on October 19th, take a moment to pause and reflect on all your hard work. Stop and show your fellow support worker your appreciation.

NSALT would like to congratulate all Library Support Staff on a job well done. You truly are the backbone of the library.

Provincial School Library Conference Chignecto-Central Regional

Chignecto-Central Regional School Board (CCRSB) Library Services is planning a school library conference to take place on October 26th, 2007, the Provincial In-service day. The conference will be held at Truro Junior High School and there will be a minimal fee to attend. The planning committee is working hard to develop an attractive program that will include sessions on student plagiarism, book re-pair, Web 2.0 for school libraries, Storysacs, reluctant readers, fundraising, trends in teen fiction, etc. A registration package will follow but in the mean time the committee is trying to gather contact information and get an idea of how many people would be interested in possibly attending the conference.

If you are interested and would like to receive a registration package please e-mail your contact information and any comments to Jolene Shaw at shawja@ccrsb.ednet.ns.ca.

Please pass this e-mail along to anyone who may be interested. Thanks,CCRSB Library Services Conference Committee
